“Life is one big pre-lap…”

...To quote sound pioneer Walter Murch.
— The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Editing Film

Just one of my many inspirations that led me on the path to being a bespoke creator in sound design and film editing. By referring to many of Murch’s principles and theories regarding crucial sound inceptions, mixing and blending - such as his Rule of 2½, and his “Dense Clarity, Clear Density” theorem - I strive not only to demonstrate and adapt my understanding of professional audio craftspeople, but to also experiment with different sound layers having been influenced by people like Murch.

I have also been inspired by designers like Ben Burtt, who has persisted in constant sound experimentations to create something that just couldn’t exist in our reality, Richard King & Julian Slater, who are among the top sound designers for major productions in the United Kingdom today, and former Skywalker alum Dick Beggs, who seemingly can’t stop creating sounds that parallel the human mind’s inner emotions.

Music and composers have also significantly impacted me into becoming a sound designer, such as how their cues, beats, but most importantly, emotions, shape the audience’s listening experience. As well as mainstream composers like Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone and John Williams, I also favour lesser known talents like Dave Porter, Basil Poledouris, The Family Newman, and others, who take risks in using less conventional sound effects, plugins and synths to compose music for their works.

That about sums up the direction I take regarding my sound understandings and how I implement them into my projects. Need I say more?

Two cars, one white and one black, crash into each other in a tunnel, causing a collision with visible impact and debris.

Car crash still from a previous sound design project, Descendants of the Sun.

Murch, King, Slater and Beggs - the audio legends; without their teachings, I wouldn’t be here today.

Any imaginable sound is possible…

From spaceships, to steam trains, to TIE Fighters, they’re all here.
